In this article, I’ll share with you a bit more information on Initial Grade lessons, the learning process, the examination, and how you can make the most of the very first chapter in your musical journey.
Ready? Let’s get started.
What is Initial Grade?
The renowned and proven Trinity College of London music education system is divided into nine grades, beginning with Initial, First, Second, and so on until Grade Eight.
All beginners start at Initial Grade – it’s the ideal introduction to your instrument.
What will I learn in Initial Grade?
One of the fundamental philosophies of the Trinity College London is flexibility. All musicians have strengths and weaknesses, interests, talents, and musical tastes. To cater to the diverse range of students, the system gives you the power to pick the music that you want to play.
In Initial Grade, you’ll have the opportunity to select your favourite compositions from a list of expertly curated pieces. These are all designed for beginners and will help you learn to read music while developing a solid technical foundation.
How Initial Grade works
Once you’ve selected your compositions, it’s time to pick up your instrument and start practicing.
If it feels challenging at first, don’t be disheartened. Playing music is a unique activity that forces your brain to work in a whole new way. It may take a few tries to get the hang of it.
To make the most of the Initial Grade, we suggest attending Trinity College London music lessons or investing in online video or private lessons. A quality teacher will help you reach your full musical potential and nip bad habits in the bud.
When you feel confident that you’ve completed the Initial Grade syllabus, you can register to take an exam or move straight on to First Grade. We highly recommend taking the exam – for Initial Grade, it’ll take less than 15 minutes. If you pass your exams at each grade, you’ll finish with a recognised qualification.
